Apollo and Daphne

Description

After a long while of drawings that I felt didn't look right, I finally got one drawing down well enough that it was worth editing and coloring and posting on here.
This drawing depicts a scene from Greek Mythology where Apollo, the god of light, music, healing, and reason, tries to woo the nymph Daphne, but was scorned by her. Overcome by feelings of love for her, Apollo pursues her, begging for her reciprocation. Daphne, not interested in Apollo and wanting to remain a virgin forever, called out to her father, a river-god, for help, and thus was changed into a laurel tree. Apollo, in his grief, removed some of the tree's leaves and fashioned it into a crown. And it become his symbol, as wells as a prize for champions.

I was reading this legend just yesterday.... isn't it odd that the laurel wreath, a symbol for victory, comes from a tale of Apollo losing?

I mean dude, she didn't want to be with you. She didn't want to be with you so much she'd rather be a tree. You lost, dude.
